Alcie Lavern Wilson, 78, of Smyer, Texas went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 7, 2010. He was born Dec. 20, 1931 in Dickens County, Texas to Alvis and Lucille Wilson. He grew up on a farm near Spur bordered by Duck Creek which was his childhood playground. He never lost his love for the farm and rural life.

He graduated from Spur High School in 1951. He was drafted into the army and served his country during the Korean Conflict. On Feb. 26, 1956 he married his true love, Lera Lou Frazier, whom he had known since childhood. He was employed by Lubbock Glass and Mirror for 39 years. He enjoyed the fellowship at Smyer Senior Citizens and was an active member there and played a key role in the construction of the building. His favorite things were going to church and spending time with family. He loved growing vegetables and giving them away to friends and family. He was a member of the Church of Christ attending services at Quaker Ave. and Smyer Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvis and Lucille Wilson; paternal grandparents, W.T. and Cora Wilson; maternal grandparents, John and Dora Gragson; mother and father-in-law, Elmer and Nannie Frazier; and older sister, Vernell Leach and husband B.J.

Lavern is survived by his wife, Lera Wilson; four children, son Lester Wilson and wife Capri of Sherman, daughter Nancy Oliver and husband Clyde of Lubbock, daughter LaShell Camper and husband Russ of Lubbock and son Layne Wilson and wife Cheryl of Houston. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Cooper Wilson, Chad Wilson, Casey Oliver and wife Melissa, Cameron Oliver, Kendall Oliver, Jason Camper and wife Tracy, Ellen Camper Weaver and husband Westly, Daniel Wilson and wife Kirsten, Ashley Wilson and Andrew Wilson; and one great-grandson, Jayden Oliver. He is also survived by two brothers, J.W. Wilson and wife Billie of Kerrville, Texas and Coy Wilson and wife Mary of Wink, Texas; one sister, Winona Derington and husband Charles of Odessa; brother-in-law, Jack Frazier of Luling, Texas; sister-in-law, Elsye Addy of Midland; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Quaker Avenue Church of Christ, 1701 Quaker Ave. Lubbock, Texas with David Langford officiating under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home of Spur, Texas. Pallbearers will be Lavern's eight grandsons. The family will receive family and friends at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be at Spur Memorial Cemetery at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon. If you wish to send flowers, they may be sent to the church.

You fought a courageous battle day and night to stay with us - never complaining.
