Obituary

James F. Williams died Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock at his home in Spur following an illness of several months. Funeral services will be held today, Friday, March 2nd at 3 p.m.

James F. Williams was one of the pioneer businessmen of Spur, having come here in 1910 or 1911 and engaged in the drug business. He was a man of strong convictions and solid ideas. He contributed of his means and services to public interests. He for years served on the school board and contributed materially in advancing and promoting school and educational interest. He was interested in politics and for years served as County Chairman of the Democratic Executive Committee. He talked little but did much for the public good. He was on the right side of public questions and issues, always ready to defend the right on every occasion.

Another early day resident passed on when Mrs.Sallie E. Williams, 81, died at the home of a daughter in Dallas early Monday morning, May 12.

Mrs. Williams who had been visiting with friends in Spur when she became ill and was moved to the Nichols General hospital. Her daughter, Mrs. Fred O'Dell of Dallas with whom she made her home, came to Spur to return her mother to their home in Dallas and apparently she was recovering when her condition became worse. Her other children arrived in Dallas Sunday to be with their mother during her last illness.

Mrs. Williams was born in Cotton Gin, TX, June 4, 1865. She was married to James F. Williams in 1888 at Collinsville, TX. In 1912 they moved to Spur to make their home and for years the late Mr. Williams was one of the leading druggists of Spur, being the owner of the Spur Drug Store. Since leaving Spur, Mrs. Williams had made her home with one of her daughters, Mrs. Mildred O'Dell in Dallas. She was affiliated with the Church of Christ after being converted early in life.

Funeral services were conducted from the Church of Christ in Spur, Wednesday, May 14 at 2:30 o'clock with C.V. Allen officiating. Interment was in the Spur Cemetery with Campbell Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

Her husband, J.F. Williams preceded her in death in 1928. Surviving her are two sons, Frank Williams of Austin and Weldon Williams of Houston; four daughters, Mrs. Eula Joplin and Allyne Barr of Los Angeles, CA; Mildred O'Dell of Dallas and Dorothy Nasel of Albuquerque, NM. Four grandchildren and four great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Lee Prater of Burleson, TX also survive.
