Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, July 20, at 4:00 o'clock at the First Baptist Church for George McCutcheon Williams, 94, who died at his home in the west part of Spur July 19, after an illness of several days.

Mr. Williams, a long time resident of Spur, moved here in July 1907, surveyed the land where Spur stands today. He was employed by S.M.Swenson & Sons as surveyor and has made his home in Dickens County continually for the past 40 years. He was born September 17, 1853 at Winchester, FranklinCounty, Tenn. His wife preceded him in death in 1942, as did a son Boyd M. Williams, who was killed in action in World War I and whose name the Spur American Legion Post has carried since.

Rev. C.N.Gilbert, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiated at the services, with Campbell Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.. Interment was in Spur Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: W.F. Godfrey, Charlie Applegate, Ned Hogan, Martin Pope, W.T. Andrews, Eric Swenson, Homer Dobbins and John King.

He is survived by two sons Sherrod A. Williams of Paducah and Roy S. Williams of Maplewood, N.J. Three grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive.
