U.S.Flag   J.W. Thomason, 82, of Lubbock and formerly of Spur, died Saturday, May 9, 2009. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Hwy. 70 Church of Christ in Spur with Jim Antwine and Leonard Harper officiating. Interment will be in Spur Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

J.W. was born March 9, 1927 in Dickens County to Floyd Earl and Irelia McNerlin Thomason. He served in the U.S. Army, 508th Battalion during WWII. He married Dorothy Chilcoat July 11, 1987 in Abilene. He drove a truck for Permian Corp. and farmed for many years. Although J.W. lived in other places over the years, Dickens County was always home. J.W. was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ray Don and David Lloyd "Buster" Thomason; one sister, Winnie Mae Smith; and one grandchild, Shawna Gale Brown.

He is survived by his wife; six sons, Jay Lyle Thomason, Jerrold Dane Thomason, George Starcher, Ken Starcher, John Starcher, and Terry Qualls; four daughters, Janice Brown, Annette Evers, Cheryl Harper, and Mayre Stewart; three brothers, Darrell, Jerry and Marvin Thomason; three sisters, Geraldine Daughtry, Linda Hargrove and Wanda Agnew; 27 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and one on the way.

A heartfelt thanks goes out to the staffs of the Hospitality House and Interim Hospice Healthcare for their loving care and support.

The family suggests memorials to Childrens Home of Lubbock, P.O. Box 2824, Lubbock, TX 79408; South Dickens County Senior Citizens Center, 210 Burlington, Spur, TX 79370; or White River Youth Camp, P.O. Box 455, Crosbyton, TX 79322.
