Graveside services for Woodrow Wilson Swaringen, 71, were held at 5 p.m. in Spur Memorial Cemetery under direction of Campbell Funeral Home, Spur, on Saturday, June 24.The First United Methodist Church, Decatur, was the scene of a 10 a.m. service on Saturday. Rev. Ed Miller, officiated. Coker Funeral Home, Inc., Decatur, directed the service.
Born April 10, 1918 in Roaring Springs, Mr. Swaringen died June 22, 1989 in Decatur Community Hospital. He married Mary Ensey on June 29, 1942 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Decatur Lions Club, American Legion and the Decatur Chamber of Commerce.
He owned and operated service stations in Brownfield and Decatur.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of Decatur; one son, Douglas Swaringen, Decatur; two daughters, Mrs. Sue Stahl, Dimmitt and Mrs. Nancy Isaacs, Levelland; seven brothers, Claud Swaringen, Dickens; A.A. (Curly) Swaringen, Greenvalley, AR; Hub Swaringen, Canyon; Jake Swaringen, Girard; Pete Swaringen, Fort Worth; Bill Swaringen, Brownfield and Kenneth Swaringen, Fort Worth; three sisters, Gertrude Bradley, canyon; Dot Ward, Nocona and Melva Jo Rigsby, McAdoo; seven grandchildren.

Mary Ensey Swaringen passed away at her home in Decatur on Tuesday, May 13, 2008. Graveside services were held Friday May 16, 2008 at the Spur Memorial Cemetery in Spur, Texas.Mary was born on September 2, 1915 to John Jackson and Leota Ensey at Mineral Wells. The family moved to Spur where she graduated high school as class valedictorian. After school she was a telephone operator, where she met Woody Swaringen of Spur, they were married and raised 3 children.
She was preceded in death by her husband and is survived by Douglas and Linda Swaringen of Decatur, Sue and Richard Stahl of Olive Branch, MS, Nancy and Terry Isaacs of West, and brother Melvin Ensey of West. She was an active member of the Methodist Church and a loving mother and grandmother to 8 grandchildren, Scott Stahl, Stacy Gray Sally Stahl, Dr. Jennifer Swaringen, James Swaringen, Tera McConnel, Gina Kauffman, and Ryan Isaacs, and 12 great grandchildren.
