Services Are Held Here Tuesday For Mary F. Stokes

Funeral services were held Tuesday August 16th at 3 o'clock at the Methodist Church for Mrs. Mary Frances Stokes with Rev. E.L. Yeates of Crowell, a former pastor of the Spur Methodist Church assisted by Rev. Fred I. Cairnes, Presbyterian Minister of Conway, Arkansas conducting the services.

Spencer Campbell of Campbell Mortuary was in charge of funeral arrangements. Interment was made in the Spur Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Frances Stokes was born in Dexter county, MO, on November 4, 1862, being 76 years, nine months and eleven days of age when the last summons came Monday, August 15th.

She, with her parents came to Texas and located in Hood County near Granbury where she reared her family and spent the greater part of her life. About the year of 1877 she united with the Methodist church. She was a good Christian mother and a loyal friend.

In the year of 1917 she came to Dickens County to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. W.C. Presley and the late W.C. Presley at their ranch home 25 miles east of Spur. Later the family moved to Spur where Mrs. Stokes formed many friends and enjoyed visits of a large circle of friends during the time of her declining years.

Mrs. Stokes expressed a desire to go to Temple, OK, so as to be near her son W.C. Stokes and in compliance with the wish of her mother, Mrs. Pressley moved to that place where Mrs. Stokes' remaining days were made very happy by the association, daily visits and loving attention of her son and members of his family in addition to that of her beloved daughter, Kate and her son W.C. Pressley. Another daughter, Miss Elizabeth Stokes at Kerrville survives.
