Obituary

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, November 12, at 10:30 o'clock for Mrs. Josephine Udora Stanley at the Church of Christ in Spur, with Mr. Frank Cox, minister, officiating.

Mrs. Stanley who was born in Florida on May 7, 1872, had lived in Dickens County for the past 31 years and has many friends here who will mourn her passing. She married R.B.Stanley on May 21, 1889 at Houston, Texas. She died Monday, November 10, at her home in the southwest part of Spur after being ill since last May.

Pallbearers were Seamon Reynolds, Norman Wilson, O.C. Arthur, Oscar McGinty, Oscar Kelley an E.S. Lee.

Interment was in the Spur Cemetery with Chandler Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, R.B.Stanley, five sons, Ollie of Ropesville, Benton of Lorenzo, Jesse and Delwood of Spur, and Birdie of Lubbock. Five daughters, Mrs. F.E. Naler of Lubbock, Mrs. T.W. Hatcher of Fort Worth, Mrs. M.B. Wilson of Bakersfield, California, Mrs. John Cox and Mrs. Lorean Smith of Spur. One sister, Mrs. Walter Stanley of Spur, and a half sister, Mrs. John Richardson of Alice, Texas and a half-brother, Willie Coward of Houston. She is also survived by 41 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Interment was in the Spur Cemetery.

Funeral services for Richard Benton Stanley, 84, a Texan all his life, were held at 10 a.m. Feb. 26, 1951 in Spur Church of Christ. Willis Jernigan officiated. A resident of Dickens County since 1916, Stanley had lived in this 35 years. He died Feb. 22 in a Lubbock hospital after being admitted the day before.

He was married to Mrs. Josephine Vdora Anderson on May 21, 1889 in Houston. Mrs. Stanley died in 1947.

Survivors include 5 sons; Ollie, Ropesville; Benton, Lorenzo; Jesse, DeLeon; Delwood and Birdie, Lubbock; 5 daughters: Mesdames F.E. Naler, Ardmore, OK; T.H. Hotcher, Fort Worth; M.B. Wilson, Bakersfield, CA; John Cox, Woodland, CA; and Mrs. Lorene Smith, Lubbock. Two brothers, Walter, Spur; and Oscar, Breckenridge; and two sisters: Mrs. Willie Davlin and Mrs. Ila Bevers; 42 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren. Chandler Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements with interment in Spur Cemetery.
