Services for Joseph Clarence Smith, 88, Lubbock were at 1:30 p.m. May 31, 1989 in University Avenue Baptist Church, Lubbock; with church pastor, Rev. John B. Cox officiating.

Burial was in Spur Memorial Cemetery under direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Smith died May 219 in Methodist Hospital, Lubbock, following a brief illness. He was born April 8, 1901 in Prosper and had lived in Lubbock since 1945 moving there from Dickens.

He was a retired policeman with the City of Lubbock (1945-1966). He was a Bailiff with the Sheriff's department from 1966 until 1981. He was a member of the National Pythia Lodge and the University Avenue Baptist Church.

He is survived by one son, E. Dean Smith, Lubbock; four sisters, Mae Kee, DeLeon and Neoma Kee, Freta Dunn and Bernice DeHart all of Dublin two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
