U.S.Flag Graveside services for Jerry Smith, 77, were held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 23, 2004 at the Spur Memorial Cemetery with Bob Wright officiating. Burial was under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.

Mr. Smith was born March 27, 1927 to Louis and Leona Nichols Smith of Jayton, TX (both preceded him in death). He died May 21, 2004 at Covenant in Lubbock, TX. He was a resident of Dickens/Kent county and for the last year resided at Brownfield, TX. He served in the U.S. Army, farmed, was a general contractor, delivered milk for Foremost Milk company, worked for the City of Spur and retired from Dickens Co.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by 3 brothers; Bill Smith of Co. Springs, Co., Allen Smith of Earth, and Martel Smith of Lubbock., 1 son, James Allen Smith, and 2 great grandchildren.

He is survived by 3 sons, Jerry Lynn Smith of Waco, Paul Smith of Carrollton and Gary Smith of Flower Mound, 4 daughters, Wanda Smith of Brownfield, Donna Bybee of White River, Vickie Drury of Plano and Rebecca Strasser of Tampa, Fl., 2 brothers, Merle Smith of Sweetwater and Granville Smith of Portland, OR, 5 sisters, Mozell Hairgrove and Laura Akin of Lubbock, Montez Rogers of Abernathy, Barbara Locke of Denison and Mae Meadows of Houston, 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
