Obituary

Funeral for Joseph William Smith, who died Tuesday, July 31 in Nichols General Hospital after a long illness, was held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, in the Church of Christ, Spur. Roy C. Deaver, pastor, and Rev. Howard H. Hollowell, officiated.

Smith was born in Bell county, Dec. 28, 1876. In 1908 he moved to Dickens county and lived here until his death. Miss Helen Permenter became his bride March 1, 1896 in Moffiatt.

A member of the church of Christ, Smith is survived by his widow, and six children; George Marie Johnson, Amarillo, Allie Ingram, Kermit; Willie, Conley and Luther, Spur, Other survivors include Mrs. Kate Fowler, Lee Smith, Troy; Rob smith, Temple; Rore Carpenter, Corelle, Co., and Mrs. Attie Simpson, Belton.

Campbell's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Mrs. Helen R. Smith, age 73, were conducted Sunday, March 6, at 2 p.m. in the Spur Church of Christ with Willis J. Jernigan, minister, officiating.

Interment followed in the Spur Cemetery under the direction of Campbell's Funeral Chapel.

Mrs. Smith was born in Moffett, Texas, June 6, 1876, and came to Dickens County in 1908, and had resided here for the past 41 years. She was a member of the Church of Christ, having joined early in life.

Survivors include four sons: Luther Smith, Willie Smith and Conley Smith of Spur, George Smith of Selmon city; two daughters, Mrs. M. Johnson of Amarillo and Mrs. Alla Ingram of Odessa; one sister, Mrs. Alla Permenter of Belton; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
