Obituary

Garland Finis Smith, 75, a longtime resident of the South Plains, died Sunday, Dec. 6, at his home south of McAdoo. He had suffered a stroke about six weeks ago.

Smith was born in Albertville, Alabama, and in 1898 married Isablee Dawdy. The couple moved to Crosbyton in 1916 and to their present home in 1920. He had owned a ranch near Spur for a number of years.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Spur Christian Church. Rev. John L. Floyd, pastor, officiated, assisted by Rev. Calhoun of McAdoo. Burial was in the Spur cemetery under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Clarence of Andrews and Homer of Lubbock; two daughters, Mrs. Vera Holmes of Amarillo and Mrs. Nola Bass of Plainview; three sisters, Mrs. Racheal Maddox of McCloud, Mrs. Idella Collier of Oklahoma and Mrs. Lilly Rythers of Arizona, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Melvin Beasley, John Burrow, Roscoe McWilliams, John Alvin, Russell Edinburge and David McAteer.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. last Friday in the First Christian Church, Spur, for Mrs. Martha Isabelle Smith, Rev. D.D. McCall, Pastor of Pleasant Valley Christian Church, Amarillo officiating.

Mrs. Smith had been a resident of McAdoo for about 35 years. She lived in Amarillo for the past 12 years. She was a member of the Christian Church.

She died in an Amarillo hospital Nov. 10.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Vera Holmes, Amarillo and Mrs. Nola Ball, Plainview; three sisters, Mrs. Lee Jackson, Benjamin; Mrs. Larue Crick, Williamsburg, NM and Mrs. Ethel Teasley, Nocono, 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

Interment was in the Spur cemetery.
