E.W. (Tang) Smith was born in Cass in 1905, and came to Spur in 1915. He is the son of E.L. Smith, and Mrs. Lula Fite. He graduated from Spur High School in 1926, and played on the football team. He first opened a grocery store in 1943, it is called the Stop and Shop Market. He married Margaret Thompson in 1937 and they have two children, James F. and Annie E. Funeral services for Margaret E. Smith, 69, were held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the First Baptist Church. Rev. Norris Taylor officiated.Mrs. Smith died Feb. 14 in Methodist Hospital in Lubbock following lengthy illness. She came to Spur in 1943 from California. She and her husband operated a grocery store here for many years. She had lived 37 years in Dickens County. She was a member of the Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, E.W. (Tang) Smith, a son, Jimmy Sprinkle; a daughter, Anne Phillips, Maypearl; two sisters, Carinner Hieatt, Louisville, KY; Marie Gernandt, Palo Alton, CA; five brothers, Wm. E. Thompson, Whitewater, WS; Les, Palatine, IL; Paul, Los Alta, CA; Charles, San Jose,CA; John, Lousiville, KY; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Burial was in Spur Cemetery.

Services for E.W. "Tang" Smith, 86, Waxahachie, formerly of Spur, were held on Sunday, January 19, 1992 at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Norris Taylor , Idalou, and Dr. Genoa Goad, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating.Mr. Smith died after a lengthy illness in Renfro Nursing Home on Friday, January 17, at 6 a.m.
Born in East Texas July 4, 105, Smith had been a resident in Waxahachie for the past three years going there from Spur. He had been a Spur resident since 1943. He was owner/manager of a grocery store in Spur and a member of the Spur Golf Club.
He married Margaret Thompson July 30, 1936 in Yuma, Arizona. She preceded him in death February 14, 1980.
He was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Anne Phillips, Waxahachie; two sisters, Elsie Wood and Derah Bele Link, both of Odessa; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
