Obituary

Funeral services for Ulysses Ben Slaton, 87, of Palestine will be held Saturday, January 10, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home Chapel in Spur with the Rev. Larry Burton officiating. Burial will be in Spur Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.

He died Wednesday, January 5, 2003 in Palestine.

He was born August 4, 1915, in Annona, Texas to Andrew Jackson and Ollie Franklin Pierce Slaton. He married Lois Adams in 1944 in Brownsville, Texas. He moved to Palestine from Glen Rose. He was a member of Glen Rose United Methodist Church.

Mr. Slaton retired from the Army after serving 20 years. He was a member of the 124th Cavalry, the last unit to patrol the Mexican border. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Jeffery Ben Slaton of Mandeville, La., and Drew Pierce of Beijing, China; a daughter, Nancy Northcutt of Palestine; a sister, Chloe Sims of Eunice, N.M.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services for Lois Slaton, 80, of Palestine were held, Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at Campbell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Burton officiating. Burial followed in Spur Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.

She died Monday, March 7, 2005 in Palestine.

Mrs. Slaton was born April 14, 1924 in King County, Texas. She graduated from Spur High School. She married Ulysses Ben Slaton in 1944 in Brownsville. He preceded her in death January 5, 2003. She had lived in Palestine for the past seven years, after moving there form Glen Rose. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church in Glen Rose.

She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey B. Slaton of Mandeville, LA and Drew P. Slaton of Cluj, Romania, one daughter, Nancy Slaton Northcutt of Palestine, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
