Biography

Verden E. Skains was born in Trinity County, Texas November 28, 1885. Verden died December 7, 1966 in Lubbock, Texas, at 81 years of age. His body was interred December 9, 1966 in Spur, Texas.
Father: Francis Marion SKAINS
Mother: Cora Ann SWILLEY
He married Effie Berryhill in Rochester, Haskell County, Texas, June 25, 1918. Effie was born April 27, 1897. Effie died June 23, 1978 in North Richland Hills, Texas, at 81 years of age. Her body was interred 1978 in Spur, Texas.

Verden E. Skains and Effie Berryhill had the following child:
Bessie Bell Skains (living status unknown).

Obituary

Funeral services were held here Friday at 2 p.m. for Verden E. Skains, 91, of Lubbock.

Rev. Clarence Stephens officiated at the First Methodist Church.

A retired hardware retailer, Mr. Skains lived in Dickens County from 1936 to 1938. He had made his home in Lubbock for the past 23 years.

He is survived by his wife of Lubbock, and one daughter, Mrs. Bessie Franklin, Phoenix; two brothers, Willis Skains of Haskell and Milton Skains of Brownfield; two sisters, Ida Garner, Spur; Flora Smith, Roswell; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Interment was in the Spur Cemetery.
