Joseph L. Singleton Dies September 11
Funeral services for Joseph LaVelle Singleton were conducted Sunday, Sept. 13, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. John Floyd and Rev. T. B. Allen officiating.Singleton was born February 12, 1884 in Oklahoma. He came to Spur three years ago and had lived with his son here. He was preceded in death by his wife who died 34 years ago. Singleton died September 11, 1953, at the Spur Memorial Hospital after suffering a heart attack.
Survivors include five daughters-Mrs. Nona Hamm of Lone Oak, Arkansas, Mrs. Carrie Cotchum of Lone Oak, Mrs. Zada Little of Greggton, Texas, Mrs. Alfa Reddin of California, Mrs. Etta Walston of California; two sons, J.R. of Arkansas and Logan of Spur.
Pallbearers were Grady Lackey, George Stanford, Bill Glenn, Willie Williams, T.B. Watson and J.R. Whitmire.
Interment was in the Spur Cemetery with Chandler Funeral Home in charge of final arrangements.
