Biography

James Simmons was born in Yowell, Hunt Co., TX on Jun 16 1880, died Nov 24, 1956. He was the son of William Cowden SIMMONS, who was a grandson to Ben Franklin Simmons from TN who settled on the North Sulphur River in Lamar and Delta Counties, and Mary Clay Robnett, a daughter of John Jack Robnett.

Minnie Mae Berry was his wife and from the same area, too.

Obituary

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Spur at 2:30 Friday afternoon, Jan. 9 for Mrs. Minnie Mae Simmons, 67, who died in her home here after an illness of pneumonia of several days duration.

Mrs. Simmons, who was born in Lydia, Miss., January 17, 1881, and was married to J.P. Simmons in Delta County, Texas, April 22,1902, had lived in Spur for the past 38 years. She moved here with her husband a few days after the town was organized. She was converted at the age of 12 and was affiliated with the Methodist Church.

Rev. Lester L. Hill, pastor of the Methodist church, officiated and interment was in the Spur Cemetery with Campbell Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

Surviving her are her husband, J.P. Simmons and one son, Woodrow Simmons; Six sisters and two brothers.
