Obituary

Services for Henry Eli Simmons, 72, were held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church. Rev. Norris Taylor officiating, assisted by Rev. Archie Echols.

Mr. Simmons, a retired welding shop operator, died October 16 at Methodist Hospital, Lubbock, following a lengthy illness. He was a member of the Baptist Church and had been a resident of Dickens County since 1917.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rachel Simmons, Spur; three sons, Calvin Simmons, Girard; G.W. Simmons, Levelland and Kenneth Paul Simmons, Ft. Worth; one daughter, Jamie Baum, Laredo; one sister, Mattie Simmons, Enid, Okla.; one brother, John Simmons, Pampa; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Burial was in Spur Cemetery.

Services for Rachel Jane Simmons, 72, were held at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 1981 in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Norris Taylor, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Eddie Allsup, pastor of the First United Methodist Church.

Burial was in Spur Cemetery under direction of Campbell Funeral Home.

Mrs. Simmons died at 5:56 p.m. Tuesday in Methodist Hospital in Lubbock following a brief illness.

She was born January 12, 1909 at Stephenville, Texas and was a member of the Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star.

She married Henry Eli Simmons April 25, 1924 in Floydada. He preceded her in death October 16, 1975.

Survivors include three sons, Calvin Henry of Girard; G.W. (Bunk) of Levelland; Kenneth Paul of Fort Worth; a daughter Jamie Baum of Laredo; a brother, Tom Barrett, Lakeside, CA; three sisters, Cleo Stephens, Arlington; Virgil Parr, Arlington; Irene Westbay, Santa Anna, CA; nine grandchildren; and five-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers included Billy Dan Bingham, Armon Fitzgerald, Truett Hutto, James Sharp, Wilburn Ball and C.V. Hagar.
