Bringing grief and deep regret to the people of Spur and surrounding area, was the passing of Mrs. Penn Shugart, Sunday night, March 28, in the Nichols General Hospital after a years illness.
Funeral services were held in the First Baptist Church of Spur, Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., March 30th.
Rev. C.N. Gilbert pastor of the First Baptist Church officiated. Beloved and respected by all who knew her, the passing of Mrs. Shugart will be felt in all circles in Spur. She was converted at the age of 18 and united with the Baptist church in 1923. Until her illness of the past months she had been active in both church and club affairs. For a number of years she was general superintendent of the Baptist Sunday School and also held the office of Church Clerk. For the past few years she was Superintendent of the Junior Department of the Sunday School and was interested in every phase of church work.
It has been said of her she was always so ready to render service and give aid. She contributed liberally in both a material and physical way to all calls made on her time and resources. One of our poets has said that, " a good woman was the most noble work of God." and the life of Mrs. Shugart bears mother, a true devoted wife, this out. She was a wise and good and a devoted daughter.
She was born January 31, 1900, at Marquey, Texas, the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Will Watson, moved to Dickens County with her parents in 1915, where she was married to W.P. Shugart, March 28, at Spur, Texas in 1923 where they have made their home ever since.
Surviving are her husband, W.P. Shugart, one daughter, and Kenneth Watson, who has made his home with Shugarts for a number of years, her mother and father, Mr. And Mrs. Will Watson of Spur, and four brothers. Arner (obituary continued on another page of newspaper which was not copied.)
