Obituary

Funeral services for C.A. Shipman, 55, were held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Bethel Baptist Church. Rev. Chester Sassman, former pastor of the church, of Bay City, officiated, assisted by Rev. Norris Taylor, pastor of the First Baptist Church.

A longtime Spur mechanic, Mr. Shipman died at Methodist Hospital, Lubbock, on September 23. He had recently undergone back surgery. He married the former Faye Warren in Denver City on August 9, 1940. They came to Dickens County in 1948. He was a member of the Spur Volunteer Fire Department and the Bethel Baptist Church.

Surviving along with his wife, Mrs. Faye Shipman, Spur; are one son, Clifford Shipman, Hereford; three daughters, Judy Bales, Crosbyton; Jerry Smith, Lubbock and Kay Ward, Idalou; one brother, Wallace Shipman, Spur; four sisters, Vetamae Ledbetter and Lois Nichols, both of Tahoka; Loretta Westmoreland, Ft. Worth and Juanita Caraway, Lubbock; 12 grandchildren.

Burial was in Spur Cemetery.

Faye Shipman 88, passed away Wednesday May 8, 2013 in Crosbyton, Texas. She was born on June 12, 1924 in Loraine, Texas to Henry and Virgie Davis Warren.

Faye was a homemaker for her family. She married C.A. Shipman on August 9, 1940 and they had four children. Faye had a unique hobby, she collected plates from all other the world. Any time someone that she knew went somewhere, they knew to bring her a plate and so she could put them on display.

Faye is survived by four children; three daughters Judy Bales and husband Gene of Crosbyton, Tx; Jerry Land and husband Jimmy of Abilene, Tx; and Kay Fong and husband Wesley of Matador, Tx; and one son Clifford Shipman and wife Martha of Brady, Tx. Faye was also blessed by having fifteen grandchildren; fifty-two great grandchildren and twenty great-great grandchildren; and many family members and friends.

Faye was preceded in death by her husband C.A. Shipman; her parents Henry and Virgie Warren.

Visitation will be Friday May 10, from 6-8 at Zapata Funeral Home in Spur, Texas. Graveside service will be held Saturday May 11, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Spur Memorial Cemetery in Spur, Texas with Eric Swenson officiating under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home in Spur, Texas.
