The Bethel Baptist Church, Spur, was the scene of funeral rites held Thursday, May 10, at 2:30 p.m. for Jess Clyde Shields. Officiating was Rev. Pete Adcock who was assisted by Rev. J.E. Lee.Pallbearers were Earl Thomason, J.J. Thomas, Ray Morrow, Riley Adcock, Aaron Parker and A.R. Howe.
Mr. Shields was born in Mangum, Oklahoma on January 7, 1906 and date of demise was May 8, 1956. He had been a resident of Dickens County since 1954, coming here from Paducah.
In 1927 he was married to Delender Vaughn in a ceremony performed in Noble, Oklahoma. He was converted to the Christian religion in 1946 and became a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Norma Jean Burnson of Paducah, Ruby Lee Chadwick of Amarillo and Evelyn and Frankie of Spur; two sons, Willis Ray and Kenneth Odell of Spur.
Interment was in the Spur Cemetery under the direction of Chandler's Funeral Home.
