Services for James Lloyd "Tex" Sechrist, 94, of Lubbock were held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 14, 2000, at W.W. Rix Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ken Cole officiating.

Burial was held at 3:00 p.m. in Spur Cemetery under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors.

He died Thursday, August 10, 2000, at University Medical Center.

He was born March 20, 1906, in Xray in Erath County. He had been a resident of Lubbock since 1965, coming from Spur.

He married Mary McLeroy Haussler on April 19, 1982, in Lubbock.

He helped build Lubbock High School and graduated form there in 1926. He attended voice school in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

He retired in 1979 from Radio Lab, where he worked as a television technician. He was a member of First Christian Church in Spur.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gertie Sechrist, in July 1980, and a daughter, Marilyn, on July 15, 1950.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Betty Sloan of Virginia, Norma Gomme of Moore, Oklahoma, and Texanita Cole of Gainesville; two stepsons, Rudy Lawson and Buster Lawson, both of Lubbock; a stepdaughter, Sue Buffa of Follett; a brother, David of Lockney; two sisters, Alma McElroy and Thelma Caudle, both of Lubbock; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
