Bill Rucker Stricken By Heart AttackFuneral services for William (Bill) Overton Rucker, 64, were held Tuesday in the First Baptist Church, Spur. Rev. Riley Fugitt officiating. Military rites conducted by the American Legion, were held at graveside. Interment was in the Spur Cemetery.
Rucker was a longtime Dickens County ranch hand. He worked for the SMS, 6666, Pitchfork and Matador ranches before he retired several years ago. Although retired, Rucker won a saddle in the oldtimers Stamford Cowboy's Reunion in 1958 by tying his calf in 26 seconds. The saddle was on display at a local saddle and shoe shop here for several weeks last July and August.
Rucker died about 2 p.m. Monday following a heart attack. He came to Dickens County as a young boy. He was married to Jewell Kearney in September, 1919. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Frederick Dalby, Aspermont and Mrs. J.M. Freeman, Chillicothe; a brother, J.L. Rucker, San Angelo; a sister, Mrs. Ola Miller, McAdoo and four grandchildren.
