Obituary

Burroughs Rogers, long time Dickens County resident, died July 3, 1956, at 7:30 p.m. at the age of 72. His death was the result of a heart attack.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 5 at 3 p.m. in the Spur Church of Christ with R.C. Copeland officiating.

Rogers was born August 23, 1884 at Athens, Alabama. He married Minnie Lee Smith at Hill County, Texas and moved to Dickens County in 1925 from near Amarillo. He was a member of the Church of Christ, being converted early in life.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie Lee of Spur; two daughters, Mrs. P.R. Davis of McDonald, Texas and Mrs. Calvin Recknagel of Lubbock; four sons, Clyde of Yuma, Arizona, Henry of Lovington, NM, Cleo of Dickens and Virgil of Spur; four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Richardson, Mrs. Cora Wallace, Mrs. Virgie Jones and Mrs. Dona Raby; two brothers, Comer and Foster Rogers.

Interment was in the Spur Cemetery under the direction of Chandler's Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mrs. B. Rogers, 74, a long time resident of Spur, will be held Thursday morning at 10 a.m. in the Memphis Ave. Church of Christ, Lubbock.

Mrs. Rogers died Tuesday in a Lubbock hospital. Officiating at the services will be N.E. Rhodes, minister of the Lubbock church; Bill Allen, Wolfforth, and George Calvert, Lubbock.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. P.R. Davis, Wolfforth and Mrs. D.C. Recknagle, Midland; four sons, Clyde, Yuma, Arizona; Henry, Cleo, Lubbock, a former Dickens County Sheriff; Virgil, also of Lubbock.

Three brothers, four sisters, 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren also survive. Burial will be in Spur cemetery. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today.
