Corbett RobersonU.S.Flag   Corbett Everett Roberson was born February 6, 1925 in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, and was raised on a farm near Spur, TX. His parents were Everett and Viola Roberson, longtime Dickens County residents.

Corbett joined the Army Air Corps in November 1942, and I recall some of the bases where he trained were Sheppard Air Base, Wichita Falls; Laredo Air Base, and Kessler Field in Biloxi, Mississippi.

He was a tail gunner on a B-24 bomber and was killed January 24, 1944, in a bombing raid over Rumania. He was hit in flight on the way to their mission, and was buried in a military cemetery in Bari, Italy, until after World War II ended and we were permitted to bring him home.

He is buried in Spur Memorial Cemetery beside his parents, the lot adjoins Lillian Grace Dickson Nay´s parents lot, where her brother, Ray is also buried. I remember Corbett was brought by train to Spur, and I believe this was December, 1947. We met the train with deep sadness---his Purple Heart was given to my Mom, and I have it today.
