Spur Youth Fatally Injured In Car-Truck Accident SundayFuneral services were conducted at 3 p.m. February 20, 1951 for Robert Lee Proctor, 15, Willis G. Jernigan conducted the services in the Spur Church of Christ assisted by Rev. C.Melvin Ratheal.
Young Proctor died early Monday morning in an Abilene hospital from head injuries he sustained Sunday morning when the car he was driving struck the rear of a truck on the Spur Experiment Station road. He was taken to the hospital immediately after the accident, and early indications were that this condition possibly would grant recovery.
Three other youths in the car at the time of the accident escaped serious injury. Toby Williams, on of Mr. and Mrs. Dillard Williams, was riding in the front seat with Robert and suffered minor head injuries and cuts from flying glass. Thurman Morrow and Boyce Rankin, riding in the rear seat, were not injured.
The car driven by Proctor allegedly struck the bed of the truck as it turned left off of the highway.
Youths riding in the car state that after the impact, young Williams grabbed the steering wheel and guided the car between two trees and into a field west of the American legion building.
Robert was born Sept. 22, 1935 in Spur, and was a sophomore in the local high school.
Survivors include the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Proctor, a brother, Earl, and grandmother, Mrs. J.E. Proctor of Kaufman.
Chandler Funeral home directed arrangements, and interment in the Spur cemetery.
