Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Ellen (Rip) Powell were held Saturday at 3 p.m. in the First Christian Church with Rev. John Nay officiating, assisted by Rev. Norris Taylor.An office employee of the City of Spur for the past several years, Mrs. Powell died Nov. 28 in Methodist Hospital, Lubbock. She was born in Clarendon in 1914. She had been a resident of Spur since 1925 and was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond Powell, Spur; one daughter, Janis Hill, Abernathy; two sons, Ray Don Powell, Amarillo and Larry Powell, Beeville; one brother, W.P. Foster, Jr., Hamlin and one sister, Mrs. Billy Marshall, LaCombe, LA.; four grandchildren.
Burial was in Spur Cemetery.

Funeral services for Raymond Powell, 60, a retired Spur farmer, were held Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in the First Christian Church. Rev. Norris Taylor, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Spur, officiated.Mr. Powell died June 2 in Methodist Hospital. He had resided most of his life in Dickens County. He was a member of the First Christian Church.
For a number of years he was active in holding elections in this county and was considered by many to be an authority on Texas Election laws.
He was a member of the Open Hearts Club of the Southwest and the family request that memorials be made to that organization.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Rip Powell, who died in November, 1974.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Janis Hill, Abernathy; two sons, Ray Don Powell, Houston and Larry Powell, Beeville; two brothers, Billy Powell, El Paso and Chuck Powell, Fresno, CA; four grandchildren.
Burial was in Spur Cemetery.
