Funeral services for Chester Arthur Powell, 61, were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church here; Rev. John Jenkins officiating, assisted by Neil Rogers, Calvary Baptist Church, Colorado City.

Mr. Powell died in Crosbyton Hospital August 19, following a lengthy illness. He had been a resident of Spur for 50 years. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge.

Survivors include his wife and mother as well as six sons and four daughters. They are: Mrs. O.V. Alexander, Lubbock; Mrs. Albert Spraberry, Jr., Spur; Mrs. Nathan Mathews, Ft. Worth; Mrs. Roland Barber Andrews; D.K. Cactus; James D., Salt Lake City, Roland, Colorado City; Patrick, Midland, Jackie Paul, Midland and Robert, Spur.

One sister and four brothers also survive. They are: Viola Mae Chambliss, Fresno, CA; Lee Powell, Corcoran, CA; Daniel, Grants, NM; Marshall and Alvis, both of Spur, twenty two grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive.

Nephews served as pallbearers. Burial was in Spur Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sara (Sadie) Louise Powell, 84, were held January 20, 1986 at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Darwin Cox, pastor, officiating.

Mrs. Powell died January 17 at her home. Justice of the Peace Woodie McArthur ruled natural causes. Born June 13, 1901 in Pract City, Alabama, she married Chester Powell in Dickens County on August 26, 1922. He died in 1963. A housewife, she was a member of the Baptist Church and had lived most of her life in Dickens County.

Survivors include six sons, D.K. (Buddie) Powell, Dalhart; James Powell, Sheppard; Roland Powell, Colorado City; Pat Powell, Odessa, Jackie Paul Powell, Ventura, Calif. and Robert Powell, Spur; four daughters, Lanette Alexander, Ventura, Calif.; Helen Ford, Dalhart; Clemmie Sue Matthews, Jeffersonville, Ind.; Mary Ann Barber, Caldwell, Idaho; three brothers, Charles Dillishaw, Orange; Wilson Dillishaw, Sweetwater and Jack Dillishaw, Calif.; two sisters, Mable Reynolds and Martha Bailey, both of Spur; 33 grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.

Burial was in Spur Memorial Cemetery with Campbell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
