Sam Potts Died Wednesday Night Following an Operation

The town was shocked and grieved Wednesday evening when it was known that Sam Potts was dead. He became critically ill, suffering of locked bowels, Tuesday night, undergoing an operation at the Nichols Sanitarium early Wednesday morning in the hope of getting relief from his condition, surviving until nine o'clock Wednesday night when death came to his relief.

Sam Potts has been a boy about town since a child of six or seven years of age when he came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Potts to Spur in 1910. He grew up here with our boys, attended school with them and graduated from the Spur High School in the same class of 1925. He was industrious and labored faithfully in contributing to the support of his widowed mother. His associates all held him in the highest esteem. He was a good true boy, just arriving at manhood's estate. His sudden and unexpected death at this time is a shock and sorrow to us all. We feel as if a member of our own family had departed from us in our daily life.

Sam was one of the Spur fire boys, driver of the fire truck, and in which his body was conveyed to the cemetery for interment Thursday afternoon, members of the fire department acting as pall bearers, while members of his school graduating class were honorary pallbearers. Rev. A.G. Abbott, assisted by Rev. Cooper, conducting the funeral services.

Every effort was made by wire to notify Edd Potts, who is in Salt Lake City, but he could not be located, members of the family being present included only his mother, his sisters, Mrs. Oliver Grey of Southland, and brother, Joe.

Sam Wallace Potts was born in Durant, Oklahoma, January 5th, 1903.
