Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. for Pearmont Gordon Pierce, 63, in the First Baptist Church, Spur. Rev. Norris Taylor officiating, assisted by Rev. Jim Palmer.Mr. Pierce died Jan. 11. He and other members of his family were apparently overcome by gas fumes. Justice of the Peace, John Nay ruled death by asphyxiation. Pierce´s oldest son, Thomas, 17, was still in intensive care in a Lubbock hospital at press time. He was reported to still be unconscious.
Other members of the family were affected, but were treated and released.
Mr. Pierce had been a resident of Dickens County since 1941. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Teena Jane and Dinkey Wren of the home; two sons, Thomas and Tony and a sister, Mrs. W.P. Parsons, Spur; a brother, Giles Pierce, Lubbock.
Burial was in Spur Cemetery.

Graveside services for Nonell Settle, 64, of Artesia, New Mexico were Monday, June 14, 1999 at the Spur Memorial Cemetery. Rev. Bob Wright of Spur officiated. Burial was under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home of Spur.Mrs. Settle died Thursday, June 10, 1999 at her residence in Artesia. She was born November 19, 1934 in Dumont (Dickens County), Texas. She was first married to Gordon Pierce November 8, 1954 in Clovis, NM. He preceded her in death, January 11, 1973. She later married Burl Settle February 14, 1975 and he preceded her in death August 16, 1992. She lived the early part of her life in Dickens County. She lived in Artesia for the last year coming from Hobbs, New Mexico where she had lived the last 10 years. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Pierce, Hobbs, New Mexico, Tony Pierce, Ft. Worth; two daughters, Teena Rucker, Hobbs; Dinky Fink, Artesia; two brothers, Thomas Yarborough, Phoenix, Arizona; Lee Yarborough, Lovington, New Mexico; one sister, Shirley Lenz, Spur; 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
