Three Men Killed And Two Injured In Car Wreck Near Dickens Wednesday MorningOne of the most horrible tragedies and deplorable accidents within the year occurred Wednesday morning on the Spur-Dickens highway near Dickens, when two men were burned to death outright, another fatally burned, and two others seriously injured when their car overturned and burned. John Picture of Clarendon and Ed Hillin of Tenaha, were penned underneath the car and horribly burned to death. Martin Kerns, of Saint Louis, sustained fatal burns, suffering until late Thursday when he died at the Nichols Sanitarium. H. H. Johnson of Paris is critically injured about the head, and Sam Peeples of Breckenridge escaped with slight injuries.
The party of men had been employed in railway construction work at a camp between roaring Springs and Floydada, having laid off for the holidays. Tuesday night was spent by them in Roaring Springs where a car was purchased and in which they expected to travel from point to point during the holiday season.
John Picture was a brother-in-law of J.H.P. Jones of Ranger and formerly of Matador where in earlier days he established the Matador Bank and later identified with the First State Bank. Mr. and Mrs. Pigford, another brother-in-law, of Tuscosa, are coming to Spur to take charge of the body which will probably be interred in Clarendon where his mother resides.
Ed Hillin was sixty two years old and has a brother living an Tenaha, to which point the body probably will be sent for burial.
