Services for Susan Roberta Phelps, 99, of Spur will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2000 at the Campbell Funeral Home Chapel with Kenneth Carley of Lubbock and Lee Yarborough of Lovington, N.M., officiating. Burial will be in Spur Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.

Phelps was born July 20, 1900, in Gonzales County, Texas to Tom and Annie Phelps. She died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, in Spur.

She was baptized at the age of 14. She taught Sunday school and was the church secretary for years.

In her late teens, the family moved to West Texas. They lived in Crosbyton, near Roaring Springs and finally settled in Spur.

She was devoted to caring for members of her family. Although she had no children of her own, she often helped care for her neighbors when a new baby arrived.

She created works of art with her crochet hooks and tatting shuttle. She taught her crafts to young nieces who were willing to learn.

All in all, Roberta had a long and meaningful life. We all loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Bonnie Neal and Mary Phelps; and brothers, Gerald and Herbert Phelps.

She is survived by one sister, Annie Laura Carley of Portales, NM and many nieces and nephews.
