Funeral services for Walter (Wrex) Powis Parsons, 80, were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Norris Taylor officiating. He was assisted by Rev. David Dyer, pastor of the Bethel Baptist Church.

Mr. Parsons, a retired heavy equipment operator, died Sept. 6 at his home in Spur. He came to Dickens County in 1965. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

He was married to Matilda Evadine Pierce, Sept. 8, 1934 in Roaring Springs in a triple vow ceremoney with G.T. Pierce and wife and Hugh Preston and wife.

Survivors include his wife, Spur; three daughters, Mrs. J.D. Rodgers, Hart, Mrs. Chester Looney, Mineral Wells; Mrs.Jack Halterman, Alhambra, CA; one brother, Jack G. Parsons, Albuquerque, NM; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Pallbeaers were John Rodgers, Royce Steward, Bobby Ishmael, Dennis Pierce, Hershell Hancock, and Reggie Kendricks.

Honorary pallbearers included C.D. Shedd, George L. Conder, Jack Allee, Vernon Drury, Burl Settles and Cecil Fox.

Burial was in Spur Cemetery.

Funeral services for Matilda Evadine Parsons, 66, were held December 14, 1985 at 2:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Darwin Cox, pastor, officiating.

Mrs. Parsons died in St. Mary of the Plains Hospital, Lubbock, December 12, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Erath County on December 22, 1918 and married Walter Powis Parsons on September 8, 1934 in Roaring Springs. (He died in 1974) A homemaker, she had lived in Dickens County since 1965. She was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include two duaghters, Velda Sue Kautz, Arlington; Norma Halteman, Cortez, CO; one brother, G.T. Pierce, Lubbock; 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Reggie Kendricks, John Rodgers, Roy Rodgers, Ronnie Key, Chris Rodgers and Johnny Wright.

Burial was in Spur Memorial Cemetery with Campbell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
