Lt. Parsons Killed In Jet Colision

U.S.Flag   Jet Pilot, 1st Lt. Henry T. Parsons was killed in a collision of two planes near Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina on May 8, 1956 about 10 a.m.

Lt. Parsons was born at Kalgary on Jan. 19, 1927. He was the son of Lem Parsons at Spur. His mother, Mammie Grizzle Parsons died June 19, 1927.

He was converted and joined the Baptist Church at the age of 13. At the time of his death he was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Portales, NM.

He finished high school at Portales in 1944. Soon after gradudation he entered military service andhas been in the army and Air Force about 12 years, three of these years were reserve service and during that time he farmed near Spur and Portales.

He married Lanell Lee at Portales on Oct. 15, 1955.

Survivors besides his wife are his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Lem Parsons of Spur; two sisters, Mrs. Joe Pierce of Albuquerque, NM and Mrs. Emery Roberson of Floydada; four half brothers, Mark, Sam, Curtis and Sheldon, and one half sister Janet of the home near Spur.

Funeral services are pending.

Military rites were held for Lt. Henry T. Parsons at the First Baptist Church, Monday, May 14, at 3 p.m. with Rev. Raymond Smith of Dry Lake officiating. He was assisted by Rev. L.R. Pendley. Pallbearers were Buford Sparks, Elbert Goyne, Norbon Sikes, Melvin Stanford, Ray Robbins and J.V. Curtis. Honorary pallbearers were Ams Stokes, Bill Lee, Darrell Fisher, Eddie Durette, Edgar Witt, Glenn Havins, Bob Maley and Lt. Bobby R. Bagley.

Lt. Parsons was born January 19, 1927 and died in a plane crash on May 8, 1956. He was born in Kalgary. He was a graduate of Portales High School prior to entering the service. He became a resident of Dickens County in 1948.

He was converted to the Christian religion in 1940, at which time he became a member of the Baptist Church. Miss Lanell Lee became the bride of Lt. Parsoons in October, 1955, in a ceremony in Portales, NM.

Survivors include his wife; step-mother and father, Mr. And Mrs. J.L. Parsons of Spur; two sisters, Mrs. Joe Pierce and Mrs. Emery Roberson; one half-sister, Janet Parsons; four half-brothers, Mark, Sam, Curtis and Sheldon of Spur; a grandmother, Mrs. H.C. Parsons of Spur; and a grandfathers, S.T. Grizzle of Crosbyton.

Interment was in the Spur Cemetery under the direction of Chandler's Funeral Home.
