Sulema OlivarezSulema Garza Olivarez, 70, of Spur joined her Jesus on Friday, January 24, 2014. Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 26, at 6:00 p.m. at Zapata Funeral Home in Spur, Tx. Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 27 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with burial in Spur Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home.

Sulema was born June 11, 1943 in Robstown, Tx to Maria B. and Miguel Garza. She married Cruz Olivarez on December 6, 1961. Sue and Cruz made Spur, Texas their home in 1974. In the following years, Sue pursued several occupations including working at Hurst Dept. Store, National Transformer Co., and County Election Judge. Her most memorable career move was owning and operating Los Olivarez Cafe. The business was family owned and operated for many years. Many faithful customers will remember not only delicious meals but a beautiful smile, kind words, and generous hugs from Sue with a personal invitation to return again. Sue was a long time devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where she was a member of the Guadalupanas and Parish Council, taught classes, led missions, and was a leader in the annual Jamaica. She was elected to the Spur City Council and served for several terms. She was also a member of the Spur Memorial Cemetery Board of Directors. Sulema leaves such a special legacy. She taught by example to love your Lord, to nurture your family and friends, to have compassion for your fellow man, to treasure God's gifts to you, be it a beautiful sunrise, the chirping of birds, or a blooming flower, to take nothing for granted because each moment is a gift and to give thanks in all and everything.

She is preceded in death by daughter Mary Magdalena (Maggie) Olivarez and sister Maria Gamboa.
