Funeral services were held Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church for Manuel H. Olivarez, City of Spur employee who was drowned in an accident at the City lift station last Wednesday.According to coroner Justice of the Peace, J.E. Berry, death was attributed to drowning. Olivarez had claimed down into a lift station to repair a float valve and had started back out of the pit when he was apparently overcome with sewer gas. He fall back into the pit and was dead when he was rescued.
Rescue operations took about 25-30 minutes.
Olivarez was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and had been employed by the City about three years. Father John Duddy officiated.
Survivors include his parents: Mr. And Mrs. Steve Olivarez, Spur; his wife, Mrs. Maria Olivarez, Spur; three daughters, Lile, Olga and Thereasa Olivarez, all of Spur; three sons, Manuel Olivarez, Jr., Raul and Johnny, all of Spur; four brothers, Jesse, Frank, Steve H. Jr., and Cruz Olivarez; four sisters, Maria Torres, Tone Vasquez, Guadalupe Vasquez and Tommie Gill.
Interment was in Spur cemetery.
