Services for Curtis Melvin Murphy, 75, were at 3 p.m. July 21, 1990 in the First United Methodist Church, Spur, with church pastor Rev. John Dorn officiating.Burial was in Spur Memorial Cemetery with Campbell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Murphy died about 12:30 a.m. July 20, 1990 in the Crosbyton Clinic Hospital following a brief illness. He was born May 10, 1915 in Lydia, Texas. A farmer and rancher, he had been a resident of Dickens County since 1970, coming here from Roaring Springs.
He married Faye Hale September 15, 1969 in Roaring Springs. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Roaring Springs Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Murphy, Spur; one son, Bobby Jack Murphy, Hobbs, NM; seven stepsons, Roy and Johnny Tilley, both of Plainview; Donnie Tilley, Lubbock; Bobby Dean Tilley, Lone Star; Bruce Wayne Tilley, Justin; Ronnie Tilley, Lone Grove, OK; and Sonnie Tilley, Stamford; a daughter Judy Cartwright, Matador and three-stepdaughters, Beverly Dickerson, Lubbock; Vickie Joyce Hudson, Lawton OK; and Jan King, Greg, Alaska; a brother, J.C. Murphy, San Diego, CA; two sisters, Lucille Pritchett, Matador and Christine Burman, Encinatas, CA; one grandchild and one-great-grandchild.
