Biography of Josephine (Josie) Violet Davis Mitchell

Josie Mitchell was born 01/07/1881 in Robertson Co., Texas to John Anderson and Nancy (Nannie Allen) Davis. She married Allie L. Boswell 11/12/1896 in Roberson Co., and they had two daughters: Allie Loraine Boswell (Hazelwood) on 09/13/1897 and Nannie Mozalle Boswell (Hinson) on 07/16/1899. Her husband was killed not long after the birth of their second child.

Josie and her children, along with her parents and several brothers and sisters moved to the Sagerton, Texas area in about 1905 and then to a farm east of Spur. During this time she married Richard Lee Mitchell. The 1910 census shows them living in Dickens Co., Texas. Richard was born in 1883 and died in 1943. To this marriage two children were born: Joe Davis Mitchell - 09/18/1910 and Esther Lee Mitchell (Winkler) - 04/29/1913.

Josie Mitchell died 09/08/1914 and is buried in Spur City Cemetery next to her parents John and Nancy Davis. Her daughter Allie Loraine Hazelwood and her sister Helen Olive Gibson are also buried in the Spur Cemetery.
