Obituary

Funeral services were held Saturday in Lakeside Baptist Church for Maynard (Charlie) Mitchell, 62. Rev. Ura Hill and Rev. A. Todd officiated at the services. Masonic rites were conducted at graveside.

Born in Ashtown, AR, in 1908, Mr. Mitchell had been a resident of Spur since 1932. He was employed at the Spur Cotton Compress for 28 years. A member of the Western Beauty Masonic Lodge, he served this organization as Worshipful Master for 20 years. He was a member of the Lakeside Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Gussie Mitchell, Spur; two stepdaughters, Alice Walker, and Franke Lee, both of Los Angeles, CA; one sister, Roberta Harrison, Richmon, CA.

Interment was in Spur Cemetery.

Services for Gussie Mitchell, 84, Spur are scheduled at 1 p.m. June 16, 1990 in the Lakeside Baptist Church with church pastor, Rev. James Kelley, officiating.

Burial will be in Spur Memorial Cemetery under direction of Campbell Funeral Home, Spur.

Mrs. Mitchell died Monday, June 11, 1990 in St. Mary's Hospital, Lubbock, following a lengthy illness.

A housekeeper, she was born in Denison on August 1, 1905. She had made her home in Spur since 1932. She married Charles Maynard Mitchell in Spur on April 14, 1934. He died in 1970.

She was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Frankie Oliphant, and Alice Walker, both of Los Angeles, CA; a brother, Perry Johnson, Denver, CO; a sister, Alberta Farris, Denison and one niece, Dorothy Oates, Detroit,, MI.
