Whitman Cross Messer, was born April 2, 1871 - - passed away January 6, 1942. Louanna E. (Bilberry) Messer, wife of Whitman, sister of John Bilberry and Mary Bilberry Black, born October 5, 1879 - - passed away January 21, 1964.

To them was born Myrtle Messer Brock, March 12, 1908; Dora (Messer) Bedwell born May 2, 1909; Flora Lee Messer Weems, born July 6, 1910; Lillian Messer Webb lives in Livermore, California; Cora Lee (Messer) Jones lives in Paradise, California. Herman Messer, born May 13, 1916, died January 1980. Their son Walter was killed in the Army overseas. Dad, Mother, and Herman are buried in Spur Memorial Cemetery.

Funeral services for Whitman Cross Messer, prominent Dickens County farmer were held at the Spur Baptist Church, Monday afternoon, the Rev. H. L. Burnam and the Rev. J. V. Bilberry officiating. Interment was in the Spur Cemetery, with Campbell's Funeral Chapel in charge. Mr. Messer had been in declining health since last March and had been confined to bed since November. Cause of death, which occurred Saturday, January 6 at the Messer home in Espuela, was attributed to heart failure.

Mr. Messer was born April , 1871 in Cherokee, Alabama. He brought his family to the Spur country 23 years ago. They lived on the same farm in Espuela since coming to the country. Besides his widow, Mr. Messer is survived by two sons: Walter Messer of Matador and Herman of Roaring Springs, and five daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Gentry of Redland CA; Mrs. Dora Bidwell of Ralls, Mrs. Flora Weems of Roaring Springs, Mrs. Lillian Webb of Espuela, and Mrs. Cora Jones of Victorville, CA; and one grandson, Gordon Gentry.

Pallbearers at the funeral were R. C. McMahan, O. Stanley, W. F. Foreman, Wylie Ball, Joseph Wolf, and W. F. Neaves. Flower bearers were Eula H. McMahan, Inez Ball, Nadine Gross and Elaine Neaves.

Funeral services and burial will be in Spur, Texas, for Mrs. Lois Annie Messer, resident of Redlands for 20 years who died here today at the age of 84. Mrs. Messer was a native of Texas.

She leaves five daughters, Mrs. Wymer Brock of Redlands; Mrs. Lowell Webb of Shalter, CA; Mrs. B. M. Jones of Costa Mesa, Mrs. Gordon Weems and Mrs. Dora Bedwell of Lubbock, TX; one son, Herman Messer of Spur, TX; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Marie Messer of Redlands; 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

F. Arthur Cortner Chapel of Redlands is in charge of local arrangements for the forwarding of the body to Texas.
