Funeral services for Herman Luther McArthur, 61, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at graveside in Spur Cemetery. Rev. J.M. Washington, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Lubbock will officiate.Mr. McArthur died in the Crosbyton Hospital on August 17, he was a teacher and wrestling coach in the school at Winslow Arizona, he was known as the dean of schoolboy wrestling coaches in Arizona and his teams had won the state championship on numerous occasions.
He had been ill the past few months, and had given up his coaching duties. He spent the biggest part of each summer in Spur where he had ranching interests. He was born in Spur and had made it his home since. He was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner. He held both a Bachelor and Masters Degree from Texas Tech. He was also a charter member of the Phi Delta Kappa chaper at TexasTech.
An athletic scholarship fund for the Winlow, AZ school has been set up in Mr. McArthur's name and anyone who wishes may conribute.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Edith McArthur, Spur; two sons, Herman McArthur, Jr., Pacna, Peru; Stephen McArthur, Phoenix, AZ; three brothers, Tommy and Woodrow of Spur and Jimmy, Lubbock; his mother, Mrs. Susie McArthur, Spur and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will include nephews Richard, Guy, Charles, Woody, Jess Thomas McArthur and Billy Wayne McMeans.
Burial will be in the Spur Cemetery.

Edith E. McArthur 83, died February 10, 1998 at Silver Ridge Village, Bullhead City, Arizona. Graveside services were Saturday, February 14 at Spur Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home, Spur.She was born October 29, 1914 in Collin County, Texas. She graduated from Haskell High School, Texas Women's College and attended graduate school at Texas Tech and Arizona State Universities. She taught school in Spur and Winslow, Arizona, retiring after 37 years in 1980. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, was an active participant in the American Needlepoint Guild. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Lubbock. Her husband, Herman McArthur, preceded her in death in 1974.
She is survived by two sons, Herman McArthur Jr., of Lincoln County, New Mexico; and Stephen McArthur, Fort Mohave, Arizona; four grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She requests that memorials be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church on the Plains, P.O. Box 2686, Lubbock, Texas 79408.
