Funeral services for Jerry Don McAlpin, 44, were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church, Spur, with Rev. Eddie Allsup, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Norris Taylor, Stinnett, former pastor of the First Baptist Church, here.

McAlpin was stricken with an apparent heart attack while playing golf at the Spur Golf Club Saturday afternoon. Justice of the Peace John Nay set the time of death at about 1:30 p.m.

He was employed at Dickens Electric Co-Op and had been a resident of Dickens County all of his life. He was a member of the Baptist Church and a graduate of Spur High School. He was a past president and director of the Spur Golf Club.

On November 27, 1963, he married the former Frankie Walker in Abilene. Surviving along with his wife are two children, a son, J. Don McAlpin, Jr. and a daughter, Tonya McAlpin, both students at Spur High School; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chester McAlpin, Spur; two brothers, Chester N. McAlpin, Abilene and W.V.McAlpin, Canyon one sister, Gwen Bilberry, Abilene.

Burial was in Spur Cemetery under the direction of Campbell's Funeral Home.

A memorial fund, to be used toward college expenses for J. Don and Tonya, has been established at Spur Security Bank. Contributions should be sent to the bank in care of Eric Swenson.
