Obituary

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Highway 70 Church of Christ for Chester Arnold McAlpin, 76, Doug Williams minister, assisted by Gifford Phillips, officiated.

Mr. McAlpin died March 15, 1984 about 6:15 p.m. in Crosbyton Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Born in Fyffe, Ala. On Oct. 9, 1907, he married the former Mary Lusk on April 28, 1928 in Clairemont. He had lived in Dickens County since 1927 where he was engaged in farming, ranching and road construction.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, Spur; two sons, Chester N. McAlpin, Abilene and W.V. McAlpin, Canyon; one daughter, Gwen Bilberry, Abilene; four brothers, Charlie, Ft. Smith, Arkansas; Ivy, Prattville, Ala; Reece Warner, Robbins, GA; and Hubert, Fyffe, Ala.; 12 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. One son, Jerry Don, preceded him in death in April of 1982.

Burial was in Spur Memorial Cemetery.

Mary McAlpin

Services for Mary Francis McAlpin, 84, of Spur, were at 2:30 p.m. January 31, 1994 in the Highway 70 Church of Christ with church minister Ernie Bishop and Rev. Genoa Goad, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.

Mrs. McAlpin died January 28 at St. Mary of the Plains Hospital., Lubbock., following a lengthy illness. She was born March 14, 1909 in Marshall County, Alabama and had resided in Dickens and Kent County since 1923.

She was a homemaker and had lived in the Red Hill, Twin Wells, Dry Lake and Highway Communities for many years. She was a member of the Blue Bonnet Club; Ladies Auxiliary of the Spur VFW Post and Senior Citizens of South Dickens County.

She married Chester Arnold McAlpin in Clairemont on April 8, 1928. He preceded her in death on March 13, 1984.

She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include one son, C.E. (Bill) McAlpin of Abilene; 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two sons and a daughter; Jerry Don McAlpin, April 17, 1982; W.V. McAlpin, February 22, 1993 and Gwen Bilberry, December 4, 1992.
