Everett Lewis Martin, Sr. passed from this life on January 8, 2009 at the age of 92 years. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, January 11, 2009 at Spur Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.
He was born in Roaring Springs on December 24, 1916 to Calvin and Addie Lou Collett Martin. He graduated from Spur High School and Highlands University in Las Vegas, N.M., where he lettered in football.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served his country as a pilot flying B25 Bombers. Everett married Frances Graves Martin in Guthrie on December 18, 1943. He coached football and golf in Lamesa before purchasing the Gulf Oil Distributorship in Spur, which he and his wife owned and operated until their retirement in 1983. He served on the Spur Volunteer Fire Dept. and the Dickens County School Board, and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents, one son, two brothers, and one granddaughter.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Barbara Hardin and husband Charles of Post; one son, Larry Martin and wife Nan of Wofforth; daughter-in-law, Sharon Martin of Spur; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
