"Truly a courageous Christian man" is a summation of the epitaphs on the hearts and lips of the citizens of Spur, Dickens County, and West Texas following the death last Monday morning, September 17, 1951 of George S. Link.Funeral services were held for Link in the First Methodist Church, Spur, Tuesday, September 18, at 4 p.m. with Rev. Cal Wright officiating.
When Spur was incorporated in 1911, Link became its first mayor. He also held office in most of Spur´s civic and social organizations including the Rotary Club, the Boy Scout Council, the Masons and the Spur Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce and a leader in the First Methodist Church.
Link was one of the founders of Bryant-Link company which had its peak with 15 stores throughout West Texas. At one time he was president of the company. The company early this year liquidated most of its holdings as Link and other officials went into semi-retirement. The company retained one store at Stamford, one at Aspermont and one at Spur, and considerable real estate. The Spur store was sold just before Link´s last illness.
He was born near Gallitan, Tenn. on Dec. 13, 1873, and came to Texas with his family in 1885. He moved to Spur in 1910 and had lived here since that time.
In 1906, he married Miss Willie Wyatt in Stamford. Converted to the Christian religion early in life, he has been a leader in the Methodist Church for many years. His Sunday School class of 67 men served as honorary pallbearers at the funeral.
Pallbearers were Paige Gollihar, Jack Rector, Thomas Johnson, David McAteer, W.F. Gilbert and Lawis Lee.
He was buried in the Spur cemetery with Campbell´s Funeral chapel in charge.
Link is survived by his widow, Mrs. Willie Link, a son, George, Jr., and a brother, W.H. Link of Aspermont.

Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, June 26 at 1 p.m. in the First Methodist Church for Mrs. Willie Wyatt Link.Mrs. Link, the widow of George S. Link, Sr. , an early day Spur businessman, died June 23 in a San Angelo Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was 88.
Mrs. Link, a native of Arkansas, worked for Baker-Bryant Co., in Stamford, where she met and married Mr. Link.
They established their first home at Rule, where their son, the late George S. Link, Jr. was born.
The family moved to Spur in 1910 and built one of the first homes in Spur. Mrs. Link maintained the home until 1961.
Mrs. Link was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, belonged to Eastern Star and was always active in church and civic affairs.
She is survived by one niece and four nephews.
Pallbearers will be Crate Snider, George David McNeill, Cap McNeill, Lawis Lee, Jack Rector, and D.J. Dyess.
Rev. E.L. Yates, former pastor and longtime friend, will officiate.
Interment will be in the Spur Cemetery.
