Services for John L. King, Jr., 90, of Las Cruces, NM, formerly of Spur, Texas were 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at the Round Up Chapel in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Burton officiating. Burial was in Spur Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.

Mr. King died Thursday, December 4, 2003 in his home at Good Samaritan Retirement Village.

He was born February 28, 1913 to John L. and Georgia Ritter King in Hamlin, TX. He married Leona Denson on August 11, 1935 in Plainview, TX. She preceded him in death November 12, 1996.

John King, Jr. graduated Spur High School in 1931 and worked at Riter Hardware Co. for many years. He was an active member in the Spur community serving on the school board and the volunteer fire department. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

In 1958, Mr. King moved with his family to Alamogordo, NM where he traveled for Galbraith Steel and Supply as a salesman in their Southwestern New Mexico district. Following retirement he and his wife lived in Las Cruces, NM.

He is survived by 2 daughters, Karen Berg and Sue Theodorson and husband Mike, all of Las Cruces, NM, 4 grandchildren; Eric King Berg of Bakersfield, CA, Carolyn Sue Muirhead of Houston. Brian Theodorson of Las Cruces, NM and Scott Theordorson of Tustin, CA, and 2 great great grandchildren; Eric Charles Berg and Meredith Camille Berg.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to the Spur Volunteer Fire Department or the First United Methodist Church, Box 415, Spur, TX 79370.

Graveside services for Leona Denson King, 82, Las Cruces, New Mexico were at 11 a.m. Monday, November 18, 1996 at the Spur Memorial Cemetery. Officiating was Reverent Larry Burton, pastor of First United Methodist Church, Spur. Burial was under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.

Mrs. King died Tuesday, November 12, 1996 at Las Cruces, New Mexico.

She was born January 17, 1914 in Haskell County, Texas. She attended Texas Tech University, West Texas State University and Oklahoma University as a Spanish Major. In the 1930´s she was a teacher and principal at Highway Community School near Spur. She married John King, August 11, 1935 in Plainview. After moving to Alamagordo, New Mexico in 1958, she became owner and broker of King Real Estate in Alamagordo and Cloudcroft. She retired in 1980.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Callie Vernon Denson and five brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her husband, John L. King, Las Cruces, NM; two daughters, Karen Berg, Las Cruces; Sue Theodorson, Las Cruces, NM; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild; nine nieces and nephews.
