Judge G.B. Jopling, 78, a native Texan and citizen of Spur since it was founded in 1909, died at his home on East First Street about 2:30 o´clock Thursday, after an illness of several weeks.

Funeral services were held from the First Methodist Church, Friday morning at 10:30 o&ac clock, Rev. W.B. Vaughn, of Matador, a former pastor of the Methodist Church of Spur, with the present pastor, Rev. R.L. Thurston, and Rev. John C. Ramsay, pastor of the Presbyterian church jointly conducted the services.

Interment was in the Spur Cemetery, W.B. Williams, of Slaton, with Campbell Funeral Chapel of Spur, officiating.

Pallbearers were R.J. Bell, John King, Jim McArthur, J.B. Richburg, M.H. Costolow, and A.M. Shepherd.

Honorary pallbearers were C.L. Love, L.N. Ritter, Hill Perry, George King, Walter Carlisle, George M. Williams, J. Frank Smith, R.L. Collier, W.S. Leach, W.L. Hyatt, W. W. Garner, W.K. Walker, T.O. Bingham, C.H. Sprayberry, J.W. Smith, Luther Hindman, E.L. Caraway, Dr. B.F. Hale, Frank Goff, A. Biggs, G. H. Snider, Dr. M. M. Brannen, George S. Link, Joe Christal, Walter Foreman.

Flower bearers were: Floy Rector, Neltha Campbell, Frances Walton, Isabell Campbell, Vera Shepherd, Dorothy Love.

George B. Jopling, a son of J. J. and Julia Chandler, Jopling was born at Belton, Bell County, October 20, 1863.

When a young man he came to "the West" and settled in Eastland County where he had a stock farm on Battle Creek, west of Cisco. He was married to Frances Virginia Sparks at Cisco, Texas, January 23, 1887. To this union four children were born.

From Cisco with his family, Mr. Jopling moved further West and this time located at Haskell where he continued in the cattle business making several trips with Texas cattle up the trail. During the drought and hard winter following, most of his herd froze or starved and after that he closed out his interests in the cattle business and took a job as a traveling salesman.

After Spur was established, November 1, 1909, Mr. Jopling and family moved here and established their present home.

At an early age Mr. Jopling was converted and affiliated with the Methodist Church.

Judge Jopling, as he was familiarly known, served Dickens County five executive times as Tax Assessor-Collector. He also served six years as City Judge and City Tax Assessor and served two full terms as Justice of Peace, resigning a few months ago while serving his 3rd term, because of declining health.

One son, Joseph Irvin preceded his father in death.

Surviving are his wife, Frances Virginia Jopling, two sons, Oscar Irl Jopling, and James Leonard Jopling, of Spur; one daughter, Mrs. Iva Edwards, Lubbock; five grandchildren, Leonard Jopling of Los Angeles, CA; Mrs. Marjorie Jopling Bilberry; Chester, Bill and Jack Edwards, Lubbock; and two great grandchildren, Charlotte and Irl Lee Bilberry.

Funeral services were held Monday at the First Methodist Church for Mrs. Frances Virginia Jopling, 94, Rev. Wm. McReynolds officiating.

Mrs. Jopling died Monday at Star Rest Home in Merkel following an illness of several months.

Born in Upshur County in 1867, Mrs. Jopling was married in 1885 in Eastland. She and her husband came to Dickens county in 1910 and she resided in Spur until 1958 when she moved to Merkel. She was a member of the Methodist church and had been a member of the Spur Eastern Star Chapter for 35 years.

Survivors include two sons Leonard, Spur, Earl, Los Angeles, one daughter, Mrs. Iva Edwards, Lubbock and one sister, Mrs. Ida Marchman, Dallas. Four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.

Pallbearers were Weldon Grimes, Lawis Lee, C.D. Foreman, Frank Watson, Horace Hyatt, and Tex Sechrist.

Interment was in the Spur Cemetery.
