Funeral Services are Held For Prominent Pioneer Cattleman
Funeral services were held Tues. Aug. 12, for Martin Luther Jones, prominent pioneer rancher of Dickens County.Services were held in the First Methodist Church of Spur with Rev. Cal C.Wright officiating.
Jones was born in Eastland Co., TX May 17, 1878 and came to Dickens County in 1899.
He was ranch manager for the Spur and SMS until 1915 when he began ranching on his own.
From 1923 to 1938 Jones served as Sheriff of Dickens County. He married the former Miss Pearl Garner, of another pioneer family in 1909 and to this union were born two sons. In 1939 Jones acquired ranching interests in Cochran County and died there Aug. 10 after about 10 months illness.
Jones, who was an agricultural and civic leader of Dickens County, was greatly admired and had many, many friends in the county.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, Jack and Luther and 3 grandchildren.
