Obituary

Funeral services were held Monday at 3:30 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church for James (Jimmy) Wylie Jones, 63. Rev. Charles Gates officiated, assisted by Rev. John Nay.

Mr. Jones died Nov.12 in the Crosbyton Hospital. He had operated a florist and gift shop in Spur for 21 years. He had been a resident of Dickens County for 26 years.

He was a former member of the Methodist church and the Rotary and Lions Club. Active in civic affairs, he served on the Spur City Council, was a former secretary of the Spur School Board and for a time was active in the Little League summer baseball program, serving as secretary and reporter.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Jones, Spur; two sons, S.C. (Buzz) Jones, Abilene and William (Bill) Jones, Lubbock; two brothers, George Foster Jones, Dallas; S.C. Jones, also of Dallas; and his mother, Mrs. S.C. Jones, Sr., Dallas; three grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Bill Gregory, Ike Jackson, Dewey Dement, R.J. Bell, Lafette Robinson and Wilburn Ball.

Burial was in Spur Cemetery.

Prayer service for Dorothy Bird were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 29 at North´s Funeral Home. Interment was in Spur Memorial Cemetery.

She died Thursday, September 27, 2001.

Mrs. Bird was born in Spur, Texas to Mona and Will Garner. She graduated from Spur High School, then attended Arlene´s Cosmetology School in Lubbock, Texas. She married James W. Jones in Dallas, Texas on August 11, 1940.

She and her husband had Dorothy´s Flowers and Gifts for thirty odd years in Spur. After Jimmy passed away in 1972, she married Gus Bird of Matador in 1978. They lived in Matador for four years until his death. She was stricken with a debilitating disease in 1982 and has been in local nursing homes since.

She is survived by two sons, S.C. (Buzz) Jones and William W. (Bill) Jones, both of Abilene; two brothers, Dee Keith Garner of Fort Worth and Rip Garner of San Angelo; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
