Biography

Matt had terrible eyesite in his later years and he would run the car into the gate of his driveway so over the years the gate got wider and wider and the car more dented. Ha! I never met Mr. Howell as he had passed on before Andy and I married but his grandmother Edna was a very gracious and religious person and always made me feel welcome in her home in Spur. Another story that Andy told on his grandfather that has been passed on down as family lore was when Matt was working on the Swenson ranch he was out building fence quite a distance from town. He had a horse and wagon and was working alone at the time. He was bitten by a rattlesnake on his thumb and since he did not want to die or get sick alone he took a hatchet and chopped off the thumb. Andy thought he was quite a tough old man and he loved him very much.
