Robbie Hoover Celebration services for Robbie Lou Earnest Hoover, formerly of Spur, will be Thursday, January 15, at 11:00 a.m. at the Spur First United Methodist Church, with Eric Swenson and Larry Burton officiating. She left this life January 12, 2015 at the age of 91. Burial will be at Spur Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home.

Robbie was born on September 20, 1923 in the Espuela Community to Rosa Lee Harcrow and Lycurgas Seals Earnest. Her young years were spent in the Espuela and Croton Communities as well as Comanche County. She graduated from Patton Springs High School in 1942. During World War II, Robbie moved to California to work in a factory that built gliders for the U. S. Air Force. She always laughed that her claim to fame was rounding a corner, bumping into Red Skeleton and knocking his hat off! Following the war, she returned to Spur and met Travis Hoover at a dance at the Spur Inn on the night of her birthday in 1946. They were married only a few weeks later on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, at his parents’ house.

They made their home in Spur where they were both active in the community and church. Robbie spent time volunteering as room mother and track mother, with Girl Scouts, and with the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. She worked as a bookkeeper at Day Plumbing and a technician at National Transformer. She would undoubtedly say her most precious job was that of wife, mother and grandmother. She was well known for her baking talents and made a pie crust that Crisco was jealous of! While she was an avid reader, Days of our Lives fan, card shark and marble player, she most enjoyed family reunions and all the stories, jokes, food and talents that were shared. She was the most awesome Momo to all those who allowed children and grandchildren, their friends, neighbors, caretakers, and many more.

Robbie is preceded in death by her husband, Travis, one son, Steven, and her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son and his wife, Linsey and Kitty Hoover of Pensacola, FL; her daughter, Stacy Campbell of Abilene, TX; 4 grandchildren Stephen Hoover, Brandon Hoover, Kyla Campbell and Spence Campbell and six great grandchildren, Hannah and India Hoover; Will, Kynlee, Kalyn and Keller Campbell.

Memorials may be made to the South Dickens County Senior Center, Spur Memorial Cemetery or the Spur-Dickens County Public Library.
